Happy back to school season, brave new teachers! This episode is kicking off season six of the podcast, and we’re introducing a new episode format.

We’re diving into one of our favorite types of episodes to record…unpopular opinions! This time it’s hot takes about the back to school season. You may or may not agree with these opinions, but we will have explanations to back them up!

Plus, today’s new segment include “Teachers Ask”, where we take questions from teacher listeners and share our thoughts on them. Today we’re responding to this question:  “I'm struggling to come up with ways to make reading longer articles in class less boring. How can I keep students engaged when the reading is longer than a close read, but shorter than a chapter?”

Are you on board with any of our back to school unpopular opinions? Share this episode on Instagram and tag us @bravenewteaching so we know you’re listening!

Our Unpopular Opinions Include:

  • Going back to school during the summer is extremely therapeutic and calming

  • “Get to know you” activities are overrated

  • The syllabus doesn’t matter

  • You don’t need to do a full-blown essay the first week of school
